Go Mike!! Local athlete represents England at Commonwealth Games

Golborne resident and champion athlete Michael Floyd is getting ready to take part in one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. He has been selected to represent England in the Hammer event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi next month. The former St Catherine’s Primary and Lowton High student has already won the North of England Senior Championships 10 times so far and won 8 medals at the UK Championships. He is also the 2010 English Champion.

As well as his day job as a software tester for Autotrader, Michael has been competing in the Hammer since the age of 14 and has a personal best throw of 70.45m, ranking him 6th in the Commonwealth. He has already outthrown some of theathletes who will be competing against him on the day and will be aiming to do his very best for England.

The event takes place on Thursday 7th or Friday 8th October and hopefully will be televised. In the meantime if any local businesses or individuals would be interested in sponsoring Mike, please contact him via this magazine.

Good luck Mike from all at Lowton&Golborne Local!
