The latest retail venture to open in Golborne is much more than just a shop. The Little Gift Shop on Railway Road sells an extensive range of handcrafted jewellery, cushions, glassware and bags. Its main role however is as a project for the local Broadmead day centre to give work experience to adults with learning disabilities.
Offering an alternative to attending traditional Day Services, the shop stocks mainly items designed and crafted by the service users and is one of several projects linked to Broadmead. As well as the Orchard Gardens project and shop in Atherton, the centre also runs The Garden Café at the centre on Golborne Road, which is open to the general public serving meals and snacks from 9am until 1pm.
The Little Gift Shop is open from 9.15am – 3.45pm Monday – Friday and is a real treasure trove of beautiful yet inexpensive presents. You can also supply your own design for mugs for a really personal present and for a very environmentally friendly gift, check out the extra – special bags for life!
